The Covenant and the Curse: Understanding the Most High's Judgment
As we read through the daily readings, we come across the story of the Israelites and their disobedience to the Most High's commands. In 2 Kings 17:1-18:12, we see the consequences of their actions, including the Assyrian conquest and the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem. The Most High's judgment is not just a punishment, but a call to repentance and a reminder of the covenant He made with His people. As it is written in Psalm 148:1-14, "Let them praise the name of YaHWaH , for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above earth and heaven." The Israelites' disobedience is a result of their failure to shema, to hear and obey the Most High's commands.
In Acts 20:1-38, we see the apostle Paul's journey to Jerusalem, where he is warned about the dangers that await him. Despite the warnings, Paul is determined to fulfill his mission, saying "I am ready not only to be bound but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of YaHWaH Yeshua Ha Mashiach (Jesus Christ)" (Acts 21:13). This shows us the importance of being faithful to the Most High's call, even in the face of adversity.
The historical incidence of Deuteronomy 28 is a fascinating study that shows us how the Most High's curses have been fulfilled throughout history. As we can see from Material 2, the Israelites/Judeans have experienced a high incidence of these curses, including siege, defeat, and deportation. The most distinctive curse, siege-cannibalism, is documented for this people and almost no other. This shows us the severity of the Most High's judgment and the importance of obeying His commands.
