Trust in Times of Turmoil

As we honor this Shabbat, I am reminded of the importance of trust and refuge in the face of judgment and persecution. In Psalm 94, we read that YaHWaH is a YaHWaH of vengeance, who will reward the proud and punish the wicked through judgment. Yet, in the same psalm, we also see that YaHWaH is a refuge for the righteous, who will help them in times of trouble. This paradox is at the heart of our readings this week, as we see YaHWaH's judgment on Jerusalem and its people, while also witnessing the faithfulness of YaHWaH to those who trust in Him.

In Jeremiah 44-47, we see the prophet Jeremiah facing persecution and suffering for speaking YaHWaH's words to the people. Despite the danger, Jeremiah remains faithful, trusting in YaHWaH's presence and provision in speaking truth no matter how difficult it is for those who hear it. We also see the example of Abdemelech, an Ethiopian eunuch who trusts in YaHWaH and is saved from harm. These messages illustrate the importance of trusting in YaHWaH's sovereignty, even in the face of uncertainty and danger. You could say - it's the message, behind the message.

In 2 Timothy 2-3, we are reminded that followers of Yeshua Ha Mashiach (Jesus the Christ or Yahawasha Hamashiach) will face persecution and suffering, but that we should not be afraid. Instead, we should trust in YaHWaH's power and provision, and continue to live godly lives, even in the face of adversity. The apostle Paul writes that all scripture is given by inspiration of YaHWaH, and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction for righteousness.
