Redemption's Path: Putting Away the Old

As we honor this Shabbat, I am drawn to the thread of redemption and spiritual renewal that weaves throughout the passages in our readings. In Isaiah, we hear YaHWaH's call to His people, urging them to put away their old ways and walk in the path of righteousness. Yahawasha reminds them that YaHWaH, who has shown them the way to find peace and prosperity, yet His people have often failed to hearken to His commandments, leading to desolation and destruction.

In Psalm 69, David cries out to YaHWaH for salvation, acknowledging his own foolishness and the reproach he has suffered for YaHWaH's sake. He seeks deliverance from the mire of his troubles, trusting in YaHWaH's mercy and compassion. This psalm reminds us that even in the midst of suffering, we can turn to YaHWaH and find comfort in His presence. I like to look at it also as a foreshadowing of Yahawasha's life purpose and fulfillment as He is the only One that redeems us back to Abba.

The apostle Paul, in Ephesians 4, echoes this call to spiritual renewal, urging us to put off the old man and put on the new man, created in righteousness and true holiness. We are to speak truth with our neighbors, be kind and tenderhearted, and forgive one another, just as YaHWaH has forgiven us through Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Christ or Yahawasha Hamashiach). This is not just a moral requirement, but a spiritual transformation that enables us to live as members of one another, united in our love for YaHWaH and for each other.
