The Unyielding Nature of the Most High
Introduction
As we delve into this week's readings, we are reminded that the Most High, YaHWaH, is a God of unyielding principles and unwavering commitment to His people. In 2 Kings 10:32-12:21, we witness the consequences of disobedience and the importance of upholding the covenant. The New Testament reading in Acts 18:1-22 shows us the boldness of Yeshua Ha Mashiach's (Jesus Christ) followers in spreading the message of salvation. Psalm 145:1-21 and Proverbs 18:1 further emphasize the significance of reverence, trust, and obedience to YaHWaH.
A God of War
YaHWaH is indeed a God of war, as seen in the stories of Elijah and the prophets of Baal, where His servants did not hesitate to confront and mock the worshipers of false gods. This aspect of YaHWaH's character is often overlooked, but it is essential to understanding His nature. In Psalm 144:1-15, David, a man after YaHWaH's own heart, acknowledges the Most High as his Rock, who trains his hands for war and is his shield. This duality of YaHWaH's character – as both a God of love and a God of war – is crucial to grasping the depth of His relationship with His people.
The Demand for Respect and Honor
Yeshua Himself demonstrated the importance of honoring and respecting YaHWaH when He overturned the tables of the money changers in the temple, driving out those who were exploiting the faithful. This act, often seen as an outburst of anger, was, in fact, a bold statement of YaHWaH's demand for reverence and respect. The fact that Peter and possibly other disciples were armed underscores the reality that the Most High's patience and love should not be taken lightly or confused with weakness.
