Walking in the Light of YHWH

Introduction As we honor this Shabbat, we reflect on the words of the Psalmist, who declares, "I will praise you, YHWH, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders" (Psalm 138:1). This week's readings remind us that our actions, whether done in secret or in the open, will ultimately be revealed. The Most High sees all, and what is done in the dark will indeed come to light.

The Consequences of Deception In 1 Kings 22, we read about the deceitful actions of King Ahab, who sought to go to war against Ramoth Gilead despite the warnings from the prophet Micaiah. Ahab's attempts to disguise himself and hide his identity ultimately led to his downfall. This story serves as a reminder that our actions have consequences, and trying to hide or deceive others will not save us from the repercussions of our sins.

The Power of Transparency In contrast, the apostle Paul's message in Acts 13:16-41 emphasizes the importance of living a life of transparency and integrity. He declares that through Yeshua, we have forgiveness of sins, and that we are called to walk in the light of YHWH. This means being honest and open in our actions, just as YHWH is faithful and true in His dealings with us.

A Reflection of the Heart The proverb for this week reminds us that "a friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity" (Proverbs 17:17). This speaks to the importance of cultivating strong, genuine relationships with others, built on trust, honesty, and loyalty. Just as our actions reflect our character, our relationships can also reveal the state of our heart.
